Mel's Winter Makeup Routine

Today, I am sharing my every day make up routine! This is what I have been wearing during the colder season. Once summer arrives, I like to switch up my foundations to a slightly darker shade because I easily tan and wear a stronger SPF.

1. After I have completed by skincare routine, which I previously posted about, I start off with the Sephora 8hr Mattifying Moisturizer with SPF20. This does a pretty good job in preventing me from looking oily.

2. Next is the bareMineral Prime Time Foundation Primer. I like to prime my face before applying my foundation because it is suppose to help the foundation apply smoother and last longer, but lately I do not notice a difference when I use primer versus not using primer prior to foundation. What are your thoughts about primers?

3. For foundation, I use the Yves Saint Laurent All Hours Full Coverage Matte Foundation in shade BD30 (warm almond). It is a tad pricey for a foundation and I have already dropped the bottle which caused it to crack on the corner but it has grown on me. I hated it at first because it was too light and made my skin look dry but I gave it a second chance. It applies much better with a beauty blender or any makeup sponge you choose rather than a brush. It also gives full coverage as stated in its name. When using this foundation, I recommend making sure you apply enough moisturizer on because it is very matte so if you have any dry spots, they will be noticed.

4. Concealers are my best friend so when I do not feel like applying foundation, I will apply this Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer in light medium. This creamy concealer works well for the area under my eyes and also for my blemishes. I just apply this with my makeup sponge and make sure I blend it well to prevent it from creasing.

5. I often skip this step when I am rushing to work but when I have more time to myself or it is the weekend, I will apply bareMinerals BAREPRO Performance Wear Powder Foundation for extra coverage with a brush. It also comes in handy when I need a touch-up.

6. I like to use the Maybelline FITme! Pressed Powder in shade 330 (toffee caramel) for contouring, although it is a bit on the orange side which is what you are suppose to stay away from when contouring. It gives my face some color and I have received some compliments on it whenever I use it. I will either use my realTechniques Sculpting Brush or my e.l.f. Small Stipple Brush (not really a contour brush but I have a small face and use what I have available) to blend it out.

7. My ultimate, favorite blush is the MAC Powder Blush in desert rose. My mother and I have been using it for years and it never runs out! It is the perfect shade of blush for any occasion - casual or formal. I can not say enough about it.

8. If I could only use one product of makeup, it would be eyeliner. I feel so bare without eyeliner. The one I am currently using is the Lancome Grandiose Liner in 01 (matte noir). It has a felt tip applicator that also bends at a thirty degree angle for better handling.

9. For my eyebrows, I use the Pixi by Petra Endless Brow Gel Pen in medium. I am honestly not very good with eyebrows and I already find my eyebrows quite thick so this step is sometimes optional for me. Although I do like this gel pen because it helps me fill some spots that could use some shading in.

10. Last but not least is my eyelashes. I curl my lashes with the Sephora Lash Curler before applying my mascara. I like applying fake eyelashes but I exclusive wear them just for parties. Otherwise, I will just apply any mascara I have around. I am not very picky with brands because for me, a mascara is a mascara. I do not really see a difference between all the brands I have tried. I am currently using the ESTÉE LAUDER Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara. It is quick and I am good to go!
